OVERVIEW

About PLC & DCS Systems

A programmable logic controller (PLC) reads field inputs — switches, sensors, transmitters — runs the control program and drives outputs such as contactors, valves and drive references. A distributed control system (DCS) applies the same idea across a whole process plant, with controllers, remote I/O, operator stations and engineering tools working from one shared database.

As a PLC panel supplier in India, Microtech builds automation panels around Schneider Electric Modicon, Siemens SIMATIC, Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC and Amtech-Jetter controllers. Small machines can run on a compact logic controller; process lines with hundreds of signals move to a modular PLC with remote I/O; and plants that need a full DCS can be engineered on Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7 or PCS neo.

Panels are built at our Varanasi and Lucknow facilities from your I/O schedule and control philosophy: power supplies, controller rack, interposing relays, terminal blocks, network switches and HMI, wired and loop-checked before dispatch. Programming, SCADA links and site commissioning can be included, or we supply the hardware for your own system integrator.

COMMON QUESTIONS

PLC & DCS Systems — FAQs

Which PLC brands can you build a panel on?

We build on Schneider Electric Modicon, Siemens SIMATIC, Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC and Amtech-Jetter controllers. If your plant has standardised on one make for spares and programming tools, we will design within it.

When do I need a DCS rather than a PLC?

A PLC suits machines and individual process units. A DCS makes sense when many units must run as one plant with shared operator stations, alarm management, batch control and a single engineering database. For mid-sized plants a PLC with SCADA is often enough; we can review the signal count and process before you decide.

Do you also do the PLC programming?

Programming, HMI screens and SCADA links can be included in our scope. Alternatively we supply a fully wired, tested panel to your own system integrator, with drawings and I/O lists for their work.

What do you need from us to quote a PLC panel?

An I/O list (digital and analogue counts), the preferred controller make, communication needs, the HMI or SCADA requirement and the site conditions for the enclosure. A process description or P&ID helps us size spare capacity correctly.
