Acoustic Enclosures & Canopies
Weatherproof sound-attenuated canopies with residential-grade silencer, anti-vibration mounts and integral fuel tank.

About Acoustic Enclosures & Canopies
An acoustic enclosure (canopy) is the weatherproof steel housing that surrounds a diesel generator set and absorbs its engine, fan and exhaust noise. In India it is not optional: under the Environment (Protection) Rules, a new DG set up to 1000 kVA must leave the factory with an integral acoustic enclosure and must not exceed 75 dB(A) measured 1 metre from the enclosure surface.
For sets outside that rule – larger sets and older installations – the user must provide an enclosure or an acoustically treated room giving at least 25 dB(A) insertion loss, plus an exhaust muffler of at least 25 dB(A) insertion loss. A good canopy does this while still moving enough cooling air, keeping service doors accessible and carrying the fuel tank in its base.
Microtech supplies DG sets complete with their manufacturer canopy, and advises on canopy and room treatment for retrofit and large-set projects across Uttar Pradesh, including siting, exhaust routing and airflow.
Key specifications
| Noise limit (new sets up to 1000 kVA) | 75 dB(A) at 1 m from enclosure surface |
|---|---|
| Sets not covered by that limit | Enclosure or room treatment of at least 25 dB(A) insertion loss |
| Exhaust silencer | Minimum 25 dB(A) insertion loss |
| Construction | Weatherproof steel canopy with acoustic lining and access doors |
| Mounting | Anti-vibration mounting, depending on model |
| Fuel | Base fuel tank, standard or optional depending on model |
| Compliance | CPCB type approval and conformity of production for DG sets up to 1000 kVA |

Acoustic Enclosures & Canopies — FAQs
What is the CPCB noise limit for a DG set?
For new diesel generator sets up to 1000 kVA, the limit is 75 dB(A) measured 1 metre from the enclosure surface, and the acoustic enclosure must be fitted at the manufacturing stage.
My DG set is above 1000 kVA. What applies?
Noise must be controlled at the user's end with an acoustic enclosure or an acoustically treated room giving at least 25 dB(A) insertion loss, or enough to meet ambient noise standards, whichever is stricter, plus an exhaust muffler of at least 25 dB(A) insertion loss.
Can an old open DG set be fitted with a canopy?
Often yes, if there is space and the set's cooling airflow can be maintained. We survey the set and site first, then advise on a canopy or acoustic room treatment.
